Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. The app does not have its own account system.
Does the app work offline?
Your saved studies, drafts, and the bundled King James Version work offline. Search Scripture in Read accepts references, words, and phrases and searches the bundled KJV. Open a result to read its context or start a study. NIV and NLT lookup require an internet connection.
Where are unfinished studies?
Open Drafts from the Journal toolbar or Continue on Today. New studies, passage-prefilled studies, and edits to saved studies autosave locally. Saving one study does not remove another draft. Drafts do not sync between devices or appear in exports. If the original study has changed, you can preserve the recovered draft as a new study instead of overwriting the newer version.
Why is a translation unavailable?
Confirm that the device is online and try again. Provider-backed translations can be temporarily unavailable or rate limited. You can continue with the bundled KJV or type Scripture text manually.
How does iCloud sync work?
When you are signed in to iCloud and access is available, studies and reading-plan progress sync through your private CloudKit database. Allow time for the first sync, then reopen the app on each device. The in-app sync status shows whether the journal is saved locally and whether iCloud needs attention.
How do reading weekdays work?
Choose an active plan's reading days to see scheduled days, rest days, and the next reading on Today. You can catch up or read ahead without resetting completion. Paused and archived plans do not schedule readings.
How do I change or stop reminders?
Open Settings in the app to change the reminder time or turn reminders off. Reminders can open a draft, scheduled reading, or memory review and offer a one-hour snooze. SOAP schedules up to 28 days ahead and refreshes the schedule when you reopen the app or change your journal. Meeting your daily study goal suppresses today's scheduled reminder on this device. Changes on another device need to sync first. You can also change notification permission in iOS or iPadOS Settings.
How do I protect my journal?
Open Settings and enable the journal lock to require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. You can also hide the journal in the app switcher and control whether studies appear in Spotlight search.
How do I back up or move my journal?
Use Export in Settings to create a restorable SOAP backup plus readable Markdown and PDF copies. Store them privately. Use Import to restore a compatible SOAP backup and review the confirmation before importing.
How does Scripture memorization work?
Open a saved study and choose Memorize This Passage. In Scripture Memory, reveal the passage and rate the review Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. The next private review is scheduled on your device.
How do I delete my information?
Export anything you want to keep first. Settings offers Delete From iCloud & Device, which verifies the app's private iCloud journal and requests deletion including records not downloaded locally. Read the completion message: connectivity or account problems can leave cloud deletion or local cleanup incomplete. Other devices may take time to receive changes. Delete Downloaded Data clears only data currently on this device and cannot guarantee deletion of records not downloaded; those may return. Both actions clear local drafts when cleanup succeeds. Exported copies are not deleted.
